Annual Virgin de Guadalupe Procession 2018

Chris Parman, Communications and Events Manager

Staff recommends the City Council approve Special Use Permit #18-022.

The Diocese of San Bernardino and Riverside are conducting the Annual Virgin de Guadalupe Procession on Wednesday, December 12th.  The procession begins in Palm Springs and flows through Cathedral City along East Palm Canyon Drive to Rancho Mirage and eventually ends in Coachella, CA.  The procession will stop at Town Square or St. Louis Catholic Church (TBD) as a resting spot and to provide water for the walkers.

The Diocese will provide insurance naming the City as an additional insured.  It also has paid the Special Use Permit fee of $600 and will reimburse Public Safety Costs of approximately $1,200 for CCPD motor patrol escort of the procession as soon as they enter the city limits of Cathedral City from Palm Springs until they exit the City as the procession enters Rancho Mirage. The procession also uses Tops N Barricades company to aid the procession as it moves through town.

The City will recover all expenses associated with the procession.
