Body

BACKGROUND:

On November 13, 2017, the Cathedral City Public Arts Commission voted unanimously to make a recommendation to the City Council to accept 2 Betty Gold Art Sculptures donated by the Bernstein family.

DISCUSSION:

The Bernstein family, who reside in New York, are excited to give Cathedral City priority to accept these two Betty Gold Sculptures.

The Betty Gold Sculptures are currently located outside on display at the CODA Gallery in Palm Desert.  At the November 13 Public Arts Commission meeting, the Commission voted to allocate $6,300 from the Public Arts fund for the transportation ($4,800) and paint ($1,500) of both sculptures.

The Chair of the Public Arts Commission will present a PowerPoint presentation which will include images of each art piece.  Both sculptures are just over 12 feet tall.

There will be additional funds needed to cover the cost of installing the sculptures once placement has been determined.

The City currently owns one Betty Gold Sculpture which is in the paseo area of City Hall.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no impact to the General Fund with this action. The related transportation and painting costs will be paid for through the Public Arts Fund in an amount not to exceed $6300.
