Body

BACKGROUND:

Mayor Henry requested a study session item to discuss the possibility of naming a local landmark in honor of former Supervisor John Benoit.

DISCUSSION:

John Benoit was originally appointed to the Riverside County Board of Supervisors in November 2009 and subsequently was elected to a full term in 2010 and reelected in 2014.  During his tenure on the Board of Supervisors he was instrumental in the construction of the Eagle Canyon Dam, which provides flood protection to parts of Cathedral City.  He was also a strong supporter of the CV Link project, the first section of which is now under construction in Cathedral City.

Supervisor Benoit served on the Board, representing the 4th District, which includes Cathedral City, until his death on December 26, 2016.
