RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation

Staff recommends the City Council discuss and provide feedback regarding the Mayor's appointment to the Oversight Board.

Body

BACKGROUND:

Pursuant to Health and Safety Code 34179, each Successor Agency of the dissolved Redevelopment Agency shall have an oversight board composed of seven members. One of the appointments must be done by the Mayor of the City Council.  This appointment does not require an action by the City Council.

DISCUSSION:

Currently, under the code, the Mayor has the authority to appoint a member to the Oversight Board and this appointment is currently vacant.  The Mayor is being requested to appoint a member to the board.  It is permissible under the code and has been the practice that Mayors appoint themselves to the Oversight Board.
