RECOMMENDATION:                     

Recommendation                     

Staff recommends that the City Council adopt a Resolution declaring the results of the November 8, 2016 election as certified by the Riverside County Registrar of Voters.

BACKGROUND:

A general municipal election was held on November 8, 2016 in the City of Cathedral City.  The purpose of this election was to do the following:

 

Elect one (1) Mayor for a full two (2) year term

Elect two (2) Members of the City Council for a full four (4) year term

 

Consider Measure P - Amending the Medical Cannabis Collective Tax that would expand the tax to apply to recreational cannabis, if legalized, and apply a tax of $25 per square foot of cultivation space, and $1.00 for every gram of cannabis concentrate and every unit of cannabis-infused product.

Consider Measure HH - Adoption of a City Charter.

The following are the certified results of the November 8, 2016 Election:

DISCUSSION:

The Elections Code requires the City Council to adopt a Resolution reciting the fact of the election and declare the result no later than the next regularly scheduled meeting following the presentation of the canvass of the returns, or at a special meeting called for this purpose.

 

Adoption of the attached Resolution will satisfy the requirements to declare the results and authorize the swearing-in of the elected officials.
