RECOMMENDATION:
Recommendation
Staff recommends the City Council accept the resignation of Karen Panico-Willis from the Parks and Community Events Commission and Sue Townsley from the Public Arts Commission and direct staff to proceed with the process of filling the vacancies as outlined in the report.

BACKGROUND:
Karen Panico-Willis was appointed to serve on the Parks and Community Events Commission on June 10, 2015 for a term continuing to June 30, 2018. Sue Townsley was appointed to serve on the Public Arts Commission on June 10, 2015.
DISCUSSION:
At the December 14, 2016, City Council Meeting, Karen Panico-Willis announced that she was resigning from the Parks and Community Events Commission effective immediately and submitted a letter to the City Council indicating the same. On January 3, 2017, the City Council received a letter of resignation from Sue Townsley resigning from the Public Arts Commission effective immediately.
With the resignation of Mrs. Panico-Willis, the Parks and Community Events Commission will have one vacancy with a term continuing to June 30, 2018. With the resignation of Mrs. Townsley, the Public Arts Commission will have one vacancy with a term continuing to June 30, 2018.
Pursuant to Government Code 54974, Staff will post a Notice of Vacancy for both vacancies. No appointments can be made sooner than 10 days after the Notices of Vacancy have been posted.
Once the City Council has accepted the resignation of Mrs. Panico-Willis and Mrs. Townsley and the Notices of Vacancy have been posted, staff will accept applications through February 1, 2017.
