Recommendation
The Fireworks Committee recommends the City Council approve a Resolution to issue Six (6) Fireworks Permits for 2017.
Body
BACKGROUND:
The City of Cathedral City authorizes the sale of Safe and Sane Fireworks from June 28th - July 4th by a Cathedral City based Church, Civic / Services organization, School-based Youth Group, or a Youth Group.
City Ordinance 723 “Sale of Safe and Sane Fireworks” grants the City Council the authority to issue up to six (6) fireworks permits to qualified entities.
DISCUSSION:
A total of seven (7) applicants were qualified for a fireworks permit.
The City ordinance gives preference to two (2) of the 2017 applicants;
1. Calvary Christian School and
2. St. Louis Church
Both of the above applicants met the permit qualifications. The remaining five (5) applicants were;
3. Desert Elite Football Club
4. Cathedral City High School Lions Boosters
5. The Band of Cathedral City High School Band Boosters
6. Cathedral City Youth League
7. Knights of Columbus
The fireworks permit applicants attended a mandatory meeting on April 19, 2017 and a lottery was conducted for four (4) available permits.
The combined (preference and lottery) applicants recommended for a 2017 fireworks permit are;
1. Calvary Christian School
2. St. Louis Church
3. Desert Elite Football Club
4. Cathedral City High School Lions Boosters
5. The Band of Cathedral City High School Band Boosters
6. Cathedral City Youth League
The Fireworks Committee recommends the City Council approve a Resolution to issue six (6) fireworks permits to the above listed 2017 applicants.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no impact to the City budget, as the fireworks permits pay for the cost of the Safe and Sane Fireworks program.
