Staff recommends the City Council approve the second reading and adoption, of an Ordinance of the City Council of the City of Cathedral City prohibiting the retail sale of dogs and cats within the City of Cathedral City, subject to certain exceptions.

BACKGROUND:
Each member of the City Council received two emails from Cathedral City residents requesting that the City Council consider adopting an Ordinance banning the retail sale of commercially bred animals in Cathedral City.
Two cities in the valley have already adopted an Ordinance banning the retail sale of commercially bred animals, the City of Rancho Mirage and the City of Palm Springs.
This item was discussed in study session on November 16, 2015 and Council directed staff to bring an ordinance back for action. The ordinance was introduced and received first reading on January 13, 2016.
DISCUSSION:
Attached for your review is the proposed Ordinance for the City of Cathedral City.

There is no fiscal impact with this item.
