RECOMMENDATION:
Recommendation
The Public Arts Commission recommends the City Council approve the allocation of $5000 from the Public Arts fund for the installation of a local legacy mural honoring Cub Swanson and Tim Bradley.

BACKGROUND:
December 11, 2017, the Public Arts Commission approved a mural design honoring Cub Swanson and Tim Bradley.
March 12, 2018, the Public Arts Commission approved the allocation of $5,000 from the Public Arts fund for the installation of the mural honoring Cub Swanson and Tim Bradley. The Public Arts fund would be responsible for the maintenance of the mural.
The City's Attorney's office has drafted a Right of Entry License Agreement between the City of Cathedral City and the Property Owner of 68571 East Palm Canyon Drive.



DISCUSSION:
Local muralist and artist Rick Rodriguez has created a stunning and contemporary mural based on the vision and direction of local community leader and business owner Jaime Jimenez of One Eleven Conditioning Club located along East Palm Canyon in Cathedral City. The purpose of the mural is to inspire the community into positive, goal-oriented action and one of following your dreams.
Tim Bradley and Cub Swanson began their careers in Cathedral City and have catapulted to global spotlight as the best in their respective sports.
The proposed mural will be the catalyst and first step in a broader vision to transform the blank white wall at 68571 East Palm Canyon into a symbol of hope and inspiration, not only for the city's youth but to all who travel East Palm Canyon. This piece would be coupled with great press opportunities and national spotlight as both athletes will attract media coverage from their sports outlets.
