RECOMMENDATION:
Recommendation
Staff recommends the approval of Special Use Permit #16-007.
Body
BACKGROUND:
Positive Adventures of San Diego creates corporate team building exercises based on the needs of the client.
DISCUSSION:
Positive Adventures has a client using the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Rancho Mirage and is looking for a space to conduct a team building exercise based on the TV show "Survivor". The exercise requires the corporate group to solve problems. On their website, it states, "Positive Adventures creative adaptation, we will put your “tribe” to the test. Your group will be divided into “tribes” that will compete in a series of fun and challenging timed activities. Tribe members will need to communicate with each other in order to determine the best person for each of the different tasks, and to assist each other. Tribes will be scored on task completion, teamwork, communication, initiative and creativity, though the emphasis is on having fun in a challenging and safe environment."
Positive Adventures plans to use the Festival Lawn from 6:30 am to 12:30 pm. Planned team building exercise will occur from 8:30 am to 11:15 pm. They will have amplified sound such as announcements on a Thursday morning. However, it should not be anything loud enough that will disrupt services at City Hall or neighboring businesses. Their insurance policy will cover the City as an additional insured.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The application fee covers any expense by the City.
