FROM:

Tami E. Scott, Administrative Services Director

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation

Staff recommends the City Council authorize a complete reroofing of the Public Works Building and the adjacent Maintenance Utility Building located at 68385 Kieley Rd for an amount not to exceed $54,144.

Body

BACKGROUND:

The Public Works Building, located on 68385 Kieley Rd., was built in 1987.  Since that time it has only had roof patching and repairs.  Due to the condition and age of the roof and a multitude of leaks that can no longer be addressed through repairs, the entire roof needs to be replaced.  In addition, the adjacent maintenance utility building is also in the same condition.

DISCUSSION:

Due to the condition of the roof, staff proceeded with a bid process for complete roof replacements. Staff received three bids and recommends accepting the most qualified and the lowest bid from Castro Roofing of Thousand Palms in an amount not to exceed $35,783 for the Public Works Building and $7,241 for the adjacent maintenance utility building.  The roofing system will be one (1) layer of 1/2" EPS insulation then a Carlisle 60 mil TPO (Thermoplastic PolyOlefin) heat welded roof system.  In addition, there will be $6500 of air conditioning removal and refitting and $4,620 to replace 10 plastic drains with copper drains.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Funding is available in 614 Facilities Fund in the FY16-17 budget in the amount of $54,144.
