Body
BACKGROUND:
In an effort to conduct municipal elections in an efficient and cost effective manner while complying with all state regulations pertaining to municipal elections, the Riverside County Registrar of Voters has conducted the City’s General Municipal Elections since incorporation. To request the services of the Riverside County Registrar of Voters Office for the upcoming November 6, 2018, General Municipal Election, the City Council must adopt resolutions calling and giving notice, requesting the County services and setting regulations for candidate statements.
DISCUSSION:
On November 6, 2018, the City of Cathedral City will hold its General Municipal Election for one City Treasurer with a four-year term, at large, and three City Council seats, one in District 3, one in District 4, and one in District 5, each with a four-year term. The nomination period begins July 16, 2018, and will close on August 10, 2018. If an incumbent does not file during the nomination period for their seat, the nomination period will be extended to August 15, 2018, for those seats only. Candidates for each of the Districts wishing to submit a candidate statement will be required to pay a deposit of $350.00 and candidates for City Treasurer will be required to pay $500.00, to cover the cost of printing the statement in the sample ballots provided. This year candidates will also have the option to have an Electronic Candidate Statement only for a deposit of $260.00. All statements will be electronic, which means they will be listed on the Riverside County Registrar of Voters website. As indicated earlier in the staff report, the City Council is required to adopt the two referenced Resolutions requesting the services of the County Registrar of Voters for the November 6, 2018, Election. The adopted Resolutions need to be submitted to the County.
