RECOMMENDATION:
Recommendation
Staff recommends the City Council approve the final expenditures for furnishing and installing the Cathedral City Whitewater Bike Path Furnishings and approve redistributing previously approved funds.
Body
BACKGROUND:
On May 24, 2017, the City Council approved the award of a Contract with Eide Structures (Eide) to furnish and install furnishings for the Cathedral City Whitewater Bike Path (Project) (the first phase of the CV Link Project). City Council approved a Contract amount of $457,798.91, a 10% contingency of $45,779.09 for unforeseen construction contingencies, $45,000 for plan review and permit fees and $12,000 for inspection and testing, making the total encumbrance $560,578.
DISCUSSION:
During the course of the Project, CVAG requested several changes to the Contract to include signage, lighting in the shade structures, electrical vaults and painting a logo retaining wall. The total cost for six change orders is $51,817.85, including permit fees. Additionally, the Contract called for Eide to furnish and install two drinking fountains, but the Eide Contract did not include fees to connect the drinking fountains to new meters installed by Desert Water Agency. Based upon a recommendation from the CVAG's design consultant, ALTA Planning and Design, Schroeder Plumbing was recommended to be retained to make those connections. Total cost for thesw plumbing connections is $21,982.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The final total cost for the furnishings is $531,598.76, $28,979.24 less than originally authorized. Approval of the redistribution of funding approved at the May 24, 2017 City Council meeting will allow Staff to invoice CVAG for 100% of the costs for the required furnishings. The final redistribution will be:
Original Contract $457,798.91
