FROM:
Travis Walker, Police Chief
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommendation
Staff recommends the City Council approve the purchase of a 2018 Ford F-150 Special Service Police Patrol vehicle, for use in furthering our Homeless outreach efforts.
Body
BACKGROUND:
In 2016, the State of California Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) awarded the Cathedral City Police Department one-time funding, in the amount of $69,197.58. This money was allocated for use with Homeless Outreach expenditures, and Crisis Intervention Training for police officers. One of the items specifically outlined in this funding was the purchase of a fully-equipped, patrol-rated, police truck that will be primarily used in our Homeless outreach efforts within our community.
DISCUSSION:
Staff identified the fleet vehicle that will fit the needs of the department as a 2018 Ford F-150 Special Service Truck. Due to the limitations of finding a variety of patrol-rated police trucks that will meet the specific needs of law enforcement, staff selected Palm Springs Motors, located in Cathedral City, as our sole-source provider for the purchase of this vehicle.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost of the 2018 Ford F-150 Special Service Truck is $38,831.36. The total amount will be expensed from Account Number 247-4577-8209.
