RECOMMENDATION:
Recommendation
The Fireworks Committee recommends the City Council approve a Resolution to issue Six (6) Fireworks Permits for 2018
Body
BACKGROUND:
The City of Cathedral City authorizes the sale of Safe and Sane Fireworks from June 28th - July 4th by a Cathedral City based church, civic / services organization, school-based group, or a youth group.
City Ordinance 723 “Sale of Safe and Sane Fireworks” grants the City Council the authority to issue up to six (6) fireworks permits to qualified entities.
DISCUSSION:
A Fireworks Committee comprised of the City Finance Accountant, Deputy City Clerk, and Fire Department Administrative Assistant II met on April 9, 2018 and reviewed the seven (7) applicants for the 2018 fireworks permits.
The Fireworks Committee determined all seven (7) of the applicants were qualified to be eligible for a fireworks permit.
The fireworks permit applicants were notified to attend a mandatory meeting on April 10, 2018 and a lottery was scheduled at 5:00 p.m. to draw for six (6) available permits.
One applicant did not show-up for the 5:00 p.m. lottery time and was not eligible to participate.
The Fireworks Committee recommends the City Council approve a Resolution to issue six (6) fireworks permits to the following 2018 applicants;
1. Calvary Christian
2. Desert Elite Football Club
3. Cathedral City High School Band Boosters
4. Cathedral City High School Lions Boosters
5. Palm Springs / Cathedral City Indians Football & Cheer
6. Central Valley Youth League
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no impact to the City budget, as the fireworks permits pay for the cost of the Safe and Sane Fireworks program.
