Body
BACKGROUND:
City Council approved an ordinance authorizing the City to join the Joint Powers Agreement establishing a Community Choice Aggregation program during its meeting on August 9, 2017. Councilmember Kaplan was appointed as the City's representative on the Board for Desert Community Energy and has been elected by the Board as Chair.
DISCUSSION:
The DCE Board has been working over the past few months to resolve issues related to payments due to Southern California Edison, holding rate discussions, making decisions on the options that will be offered to customers and discussing the importance of a robust marketing and communications plan.
CM Kaplan would like to present an update to the full Council on discussions the Board has completed, decisions made and an upcoming timeline for the implementation of the CCA option for consumers.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no cost to the City. A lower cost option for electricity will likely be available to consumers.
