BACKGROUND:
CM Kaplan requested a study session discussion item on support for SB 705 as well as a local ordinance addressing polystyrene containers. This item was discussed by Council during its meeting on January 10, 2018. Council asked staff to provide the full text of SB 705, which was done at the end of the meeting. SB 705 is also attached to this report.
DISCUSSION:
Senator Ben Allen, 26th District, introduced SB 705 and has reached out to CM Kaplan asking for Cathedral City to support the bill, which would ban the use of polystyrene containers in California. He has also encouraged local jurisdictions to consider local ordinances banning the containers. A letter from Senator Allen is attached as is the text of SB 705.
