TITLE:

Title

2018 Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians Grant Application

End

FROM:

Paul S. Wilson, Fire Chief

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation

Staff recommends the City Council approve a fire department grant application to the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians in the amount of $25,000. The 2018 grant application would provide funding for structural and wildland personal protective equipment (helmets, goggles, coats, gloves, pants and boots) for six firefighter / paramedics.

Body

BACKGROUND:

The fire department has received on-going support from the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians through their annual grant program.

The 2018 fire department application is requesting six sets of helmets, goggles, coats, gloves, pants and boots to outfit the new Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) firefighter / paramedics.

DISCUSSION:

The SAFER grant does not fund personal protective equipment for the new firefighters.

The cost of the personal protective equipment was not funded in the fire department 2017/18 operating budget.

The grant, if awarded, would provide the necessary personal protective equipment to outfit the new firefighter / paramedics.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no fiscal impact to the City to apply for or accept the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians grant.
