Authorization to Purchase One City Vehicle
End
FROM:
Albert Jimenez, Code Compliance Supervisor
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommendation
Staff recommends the City Council authorize the purchase of one Ford F-150 Truck for the Code Compliance Department using Riverside County Abandoned Vehicle Abatement Service Authority funding.
Body
BACKGROUND:
In April of 2017, The City Council Authorized the hiring of one additional Code Compliance Officer; the proposed vehicle will be utilized by that Officer. Staff applied for and received an 80/20 grant from The Riverside County Abandoned Vehicle Abatement Service Authority (RCAVASA) to fund 80% of a vehicle purchase and related equipment upgrades.
DISCUSSION:
The recently hired additional Compliance Officer has undergone thorough Field Training time with Senior Code Compliance Officers, riding along with them has given this Officer invaluable insight into the duties, techniques and methodologies of gaining compliance. With the completion of this phase, the sharing of vehicles creates an inability to maximize Code Enforcement presence and effectiveness.
This purchase item was not identified during the biannual budgeting process as available funding had not been identified at that time. Receiving the RCAVASA grant provides the City with an unexpected opportunity to fund the majority of an essential equipment purchase, which will allow all Code officers to be in the field to the greatest extent possible.
FISCAL IMPACT:
$46,297.97 Total Cost for fully equipped vehicle
$37,030.37 RCAVASA approved reimbursement
$ 9,267.60 Total Cost to Cathedral City to be paid for through the Equipment Replacement Fund
ATTACHMENTS:
1. RCAVASA grant approval letter.
