Title

Ordinance Establishing Membership on the Public Arts Commission at Five Positions

FROM:

Charlie McClendon, City Manager

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation

Staff recommends the City Council introduce and provide first reading to an ordinance establishing the membership of the Public Arts Commission at five positions.

Body

BACKGROUND:

At the time of the creation of the Public Arts Commission in 1997, Council set the membership on the Commission at five members.  It remained that way until February of 2014 at which time Council voted to increase the membership to seven and allow for up to two members to be non-residents.  Recently two vacancies have occurred on the Commission resulting in a current membership of five.  All current members of the Commission are residents of Cathedral City.

DISCUSSION:

An agenda item at the Council meeting of October 11, 2017 concerned the resignation of a member of the Public Arts Commission.  During the discussion of that item Council suggested that perhaps the membership of the Commission should return to five members as it was when the Commission was created.  A subsequent resignation has resulted in a current membership on the Commission of five.  Therefore, if Council wishes to reduce the membership back to five, this would be a good time for that action to occur.

An ordinance has been prepared for introduction and first reading to reduce the membership of the Public Arts Commission back to five.  The ordinance is attached.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no cost associated with this item.
