FROM:

Tracey R. Martinez, CMC

Deputy City Clerk

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation

Staff recommends the City Council accept the resignation of Robby Sherwin from the Public Arts Commission effective October 25, 2017.

Body

BACKGROUND:

Robby Sherwin was appointed to serve on the Public Arts Commission on February 9, 2017, to fill an unexpired term continuing to June 30, 2019.

DISCUSSION:

On October 9, 2017, Robby Sherwin submitted his resignation from the Public Arts Commission.

With the resignation of Mr. Sherwin, the Public Arts Commission will have two vacancies, one with a term continuing to June 30, 2018 and one with a term continuing to June 30, 2019.

Pursuant to Government Code 54974, Staff will post a Notice of Vacancy, no appointment can be made sooner than 10 days after the Notice of Vacancy has been posted.

At the October 11, 2017 City Council Meeting, there was some discussion on reducing the number of members on the Public Arts Commission from 7 to 5.  There is an item on the October 25, 2017 City Council Agenda to approve the first reading of an Ordinance amending the Municipal Code to have the Public Arts Commission be a 5 member commission.  Should the Ordinance be approved, there will be no further action required.  In the event the City Council does not want to reduce the number of commissioners direction will need to be given on how to proceed with filling the vacancies.
