TITLE:

Title

Resignation of Tim Parrott from Public Arts Commission

End

FROM:

Tracey R. Martinez, CMC

Deputy City Clerk

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation

Staff recommends the City Council accept the resignation of Tim Parrott from the Public Arts Commission and direct staff on how to proceed with filling the vacancy.

Body

BACKGROUND:

Tim Parrott was appointed to serve on the Public Arts Commission on June 10, 2015 for a three-year term expiring on June 30, 2018.

DISCUSSION:

On September 27, 2017, Tim Parrott gave his resignation from the Public Arts Commission effective immediately.

With the resignation of Mr. Parrott, the Public Arts Commission will have one vacancy with a term continuing to June 30, 2018.

Pursuant to Government Code 54974, Staff will post a Notice of Vacancy, no appointment can be made sooner than 10 days after the Notice of Vacancy has been posted.

The following are two options recommended by staff that the Council may choose from to fill the unexpired term:

1.                     Accept applications and conduct interviews.  Council would need to set a deadline for applications and schedule a date to conduct interviews.

2.                     Direct Staff to contact individuals that applied in June of 2017 for the Public Arts Commission, and were not appointed, to see if they are still interested in serving in that capacity.  If there are still candidates available from the June interviews Council could make an appointment based on those interviews without soliciting additional candidates or could consider those candidates along with new applicants.
