Body
BACKGROUND:
The Ramon Road Bridge Widening Project (Project) is anticipated to start at the end of 2018. The Project will widen Ramon Road from San Luis Rey to Candlewood Drive and will include median additions and modifications along the Project route.
DISCUSSION:
In anticipation of the proposed median design changes that will occur with the Project, the City's Public Arts Commission is interested in discussing the location reservation(s) that will be needed within the Ramon Road median(s) for a future undetermined piece of art. The current location is proposed to be just east of Landau Blvd. It is suggested that this piece of art will be at the City's west gateway and mesh with a potential future City Monument sign located somewhere along the Project's eastbound Ramon Road route.
The design of the entryway monuments as approved by Council are attached. The monuments were designed to work in conjunction with art pieces.
Staff is on hold as to what and where the art piece will be located at this time and would like input regarding this topic.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No funding remains in the entryway sign budget. The cost for an entryway monument is $20,000. Any artwork provided would be in addition and would come from the Public Art fund.
