BACKGROUND:
Since 1894, the United States has celebrated America's workers through the creation of Labor Day. Held on the first Monday in September, the Day celebrates and recognizes the historic achievements made by the labor movement. It is also a day to discuss the labor movement current status and its goals for the future.
DISCUSSION:
Mayor Pro Tem Greg Pettis and Councilmember Shelley Kaplan are planning to host a political rally on Labor Day, September 4, 2017 from 5 pm to 6:30 pm, to discuss the importance of the labor movement and its current status. They expect to attract 100 to 500 people. The event will be using amplified speakers, but during our normal festival/event times.
The event will either be held in front of City Hall at Civic Center Plaza or on the Festival Lawn. They will instruct attendees to use the Desert Cinema public restrooms.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Mayor Pro Tem Pettis has paid the application fee and there should not be any significant cost to the City. An insurance certificate has already been submitted.
