RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation

Staff recommends the City Council approve SUP #17-005.

Body

BACKGROUND:

The Cathedral City High School (CCHS) Theater Department performed "Romeo and Juliet" last June in the Paseo as part of a "Shakespeare in the Park" event.  The City sponsored the event and it was well received by the community.

DISCUSSION:

The theater department proposes to offer one performance of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" on May 20, 2017 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.  Set-up would occur on the same day at 4:00 pm and teardown by 7:30 pm.  They expect no more than 100 people.  There will be amplified sound; however, based on last year's play, sound had no bearing on the surrounding neighborhoods.  Since the Parks and Community Events Commission would like to sponsor the event and continue its support in the future, staff recommends waiving the $510 application fee.  The school district will provide insurance covering the City as an additional insured.   No alcohol will be allowed or served.

FISCAL IMPACT:

No significant fiscal impact to the City.
