Title

2017 Donation of Communications Equipment

End

FROM:

Paul S. Wilson, Fire Chief

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation

Staff recommends the City Council approve the donation of forty portable VHF radios, chargers and batteries to the Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico sister city.

Body

BACKGROUND:

The fire department received a 2016 State Homeland Security Grant in the amount of $87,210 for the replacement of portable radios and associated accessories.

The old portable VHF radios, which were replaced by the State Homeland Security Grant, have limited value.

The donation of the portable VHF radios would support the Sister City Program and benefit the Bomberos of Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico.

DISCUSSION:

The fire department understands the value of the Sister City Program, as Bomberos (firefighters) everywhere care about their community. The donation will provide Tequila firefighters with adequate communications when responding to emergencies.

The following portable radios are recommended for disposal via donation:

Motorola - VHF:

HT 1000                      12 Portable radios

MT 1000                       3 Portable radios

Monitor IV                       3 Portable radios (plus charger)

JT 1000                        2 Portable radios

Kenwood - VHF:

TK2180       11 Portable radios

TK 280                       4 without number pad, Portable radios

TK 280                       3 with number pad, Portable radios

BKLZA0531  2 Portable radios

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no fiscal impact to the City for donation of the portable radios, as the value of the old portable radios is minimal.  No City funds were expended to replace the portable radios as the new radios were grant funded.
