Body

BACKGROUND:

On June 10, 2016 Council participated in a community discussion held at the St. Louis Church in Cathedral City.  The Church's committee on Social Justice made a presentation on Community Benefit Agreements, which are designed to help insure that new development in a community benefits all segments of the community.  As a result of that discussion Council subsequently appointed Mayor Pro Tem Greg Pettis and Councilmember John Aguilar to a subcommittee to explore how CBA's might work to the benefit of the people of Cathedral City.

DISCUSSION:

Mayor Pro Tem Pettis and Councilmember Aguilar will provide the full Council with their insight on how the work of the subcommittee is progressing.  Community members working on the project, Josie Diaz and Fabiola Alvarez, may also provide observations to the Council.  The subcommittee is working on plans for a community forum for key stakeholders and has also discussed the possible need to expand their mission to include work on an Economic Development strategic plan.  Feedback from the full Council will be helpful as they continue with their work.

FISCAL IMPACT:

An expenditure of funds if about $7500 will likely be necessary for the community forum and will require a budget amendment, which will come to Council along with the service contract if that is the direction received from Council.
