Title

2016 Firehouse Subs Grant

End

FROM:

Paul S. Wilson, Fire Chief

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation

Staff wishes to acknowledge Mr. Shinder Singh, Franchisee of the Firehouse Subs Restaurant located at 5200 E. Ramon Rd. #G-4 in Palm Springs and the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation for a grant in the amount of $20,243.48 to purchase extrication equipment.

Body

BACKGROUND:

The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation was formed in 2005 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.  Since then, they have made it their mission to donate proceeds from sales at their stores to help fire departments near their Firehouse Sub Stores.

The Cathedral City Fire Department Engineer Russ Barsness requested a grant from Firehouse Subs in the amount of $20,243.48 to purchase extrication equipment.  The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation was gracious enough to commit the funds to purchase the equipment.

DISCUSSION:

The Cathedral City Fire Department was in need of extrication tools to replace aging extrication tools that were purchased 20 years ago.  The newer tools enable firefighters to extricate persons trapped in half the time currently spent to perform the same task now.

The replacement cost of these unique tools was not in our current operating budget.  The grant offered by the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation covered the cost entirely.

The fire department appreciates the support of Mr. Singh and Firehouse Subs.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no fiscal impact to the City as a result of accepting these grant funds.
