FROM:
Pat Milos, Community Development Director

RECOMMENDATION:
Recommendation
Staff recommends the City Council approve a joint agreement between the City of Cathedral City and the City of Desert Hot Springs for the maintenance of (2) two existing traffic signals bordering both cities on a common city limits boundary at Paul Drive and Palm Drive; and Palm Drive and Varner Road.
Body

BACKGROUND:
Currently the Cities of Cathedral City and Desert Hot Springs share jurisdiction at two (2) signalized intersections. Cathedral City is the lead agency at the intersection of Paul Drive and Palm Drive, and Desert Hot Springs is the lead agency at Palm Drive and Varner Road. This has presented an opportune time for the City of Desert Hot Springs and the City of Cathedral City to review and memorialize the individual maintenance responsibilities of the (2) two existing traffic signals that fall along the common city boundaries.
The proposed agreement reflects the formal method that costs shall be shared between the two cities. Costs of maintenance are proposed to be shared in conformance with the agreement.

DISCUSSION:
The attached Agreement for Maintenance of Shared Intersections and Safety Lighting ("Agreement") provides that the City of Cathedral City will reimburse Desert Hot Springs for 25% of the cost of maintaining the Palm Drive and Varner Road signals, and the City of Desert Hot Springs will reimburse the City of Cathedral City 50% of the cost of maintaining the signals at Palm Drive and Paul Road, as depicted in Exhibit "A" of the Agreement.

FISCAL IMPACT:
This Agreement memorializes a current condition and has a minimal positive financial impact on the City. Both Cities contract for signal maintenance with Siemens Industry Inc.
