Staff recommends that the City Council interview the six applicants that have submitted applications for possible appointment to fill two unexpired terms on the Planning Commission and one applicant that has submitted an application for possible appointment to fill one unexpired term on the Parks and Community Events Commission.

BACKGROUND:
On November 16, 2015, the City Council accepted the resignation of Robin Johnson from the Planning Commission as well as the resignation of Julie Haltman from the Parks and Community Events Commission.
Pursuant to California Government Code Section 54974, a Notice of Unscheduled Vacancy on the Planning Commission and a Notice of Unscheduled Vacancy on the Parks and Community Events Commission were posted allowing the opportunity for applications to be submitted to fill these vacancies. In addition to the Notice of Vacancies, a notice was published in the Desert Sun and placed on the City's website and Face Book page with a deadline of December 17, 2015, by the close of business.
On January 3, 2016, City Staff was notified of the passing of Planning Commissioner William Baker. Pursuant to California government Code Section 54974, a Notice of Unscheduled Vacancy was also posted allowing the opportunity for applications to be submitted to fill these vacancies.
With the resignations and passing of Mr. Baker there is one unexpired term on the Planning Commission that will continue to June 30, 2017, one unexpired term on the Planning Commission that will continue to June 30, 2018 and one unexpired term on the Parks and Community Events Commission that will continue to June 30, 2017.
