End
FROM:
Pat Milos, Community Development Director
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the City Council review and consider the attached existing Municipal Code (CCMC) 9.80 "Accessory Structures, Structure Heights, Yards, Walls and Fencing" with a focus on section 9.80.120 "Permitted Enclosures" and provide staff direction.
Body
BACKGROUND:
In 1984 the City Council adopted Ordinance 80 intended to implement the goals and policies of the general plan of the city of Cathedral City by preserving and enhancing the visual aspects of the city and to promote the orderly and attractive construction, placement, and display of accessary structures, structure Heights, Yards, Walls and Fencing throughout the city of Cathedral City. The Ordinance has been amended twice since to keep it up to date, add detail and better define the purpose and intent of the code.
DISCUSSION:
The most recent amendment, ordinance #563 was adopted and implemented in 2002. Since that time the ordinance has served the city well in most cases. However, recently the City has seen an increase in the construction of non-permitted and non-compliant fence structures, subsequently leading to an increase in resident concerns and complaints.
Staff will provide the City Council with a brief review of the related Municipal Code, with a focus on section 9.80.120 A. which covers fence and wall heights and construction regulations for front yards.
Once the City Council has reviewed and discussed the Municipal Code it may wish to provide Staff with direction to further review and update the Code.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact to the City
